On Sunday, July 24, the return of one of LBI’s most anticipated summer events will take place on 68th Street in Brant Beach on Long Beach Island.

Now in its 14th year, the Coquina Jam is an all-women’s team format surf contest pairing women of all ages in a day of fierce competition to support families affected by a cancer diagnosis via David’s Dream & Believe Cancer Foundation and the Jetty Rock Foundation.

This year is the Jam’s biggest yet with 96 surfers ranging in age from 8 to 68 who will be broken up into 8 teams. In addition to surfing in the event, each surfer conducts fundraising leading up to the event which is matched by their team sponsor.

An overwhelming number of surfers participating in the event have a personal connection to the cause.

Ella Reichbach from Barnegat Light is 11 years old and has been competing in the Coquina Jam since she was 9. This year it is personal as she is surfing for her mom who is currently battling advanced stage 4 cancer. An unrelated injury led doctors to diagnose her without any other signs or symptoms present. After 10 hours of emergency surgery and 6 months of chemo, Ella’s mom is still fighting with Ella staying strong right alongside her.

JRF and DDBCF co-host Coquina Jam each year to carry on the tradition of supporting the trailblazing women that inspire us to conquer any challenge that may arise.

“We’re beyond proud to support this powerful and inspiring event that continues to be a shining example of our community coming together to help those in need.” said Jeremy DeFilippis, Jetty CEO.

“Last year, funds raised from this event went directly to 100 local families affected by a cancer diagnosis.” added David Caldarella, CEO and Co-founder of David’s Dream & Believe Cancer Foundation.

Several local businesses have rallied behind this worthwhile cause including LBI Distilling Company the event’s Semi-Finals sponsor with a $10,000 donation as well as Equity Prime Mortgage and Atlantic Physical Therapy, the event’s Quarter-Finals sponsors. Food, drinks, live music, and local businesses will all be on-hand.
