The month of May is not starting off very merry for New Jersey employers.

More than 600 layoffs have been reported in the Garden State through the first week of May, amid three facility closures announced.

They include:

  • The closure of an Accupac plant in Lakewood, yielding 260 job losses. The beauty and personal care company is consolidating its operations to be in Pennsylvania only. Only nine employees are expected to transfer. The lost positions include line workers, mechanics and warehouse staff.
  • The closure of a Danone North America PBD plants in Bridgeton, resulting in 116 lost jobs. The plant where yogurt and other dairy products are manufactuered had been open since 2001.
  • In Somerset, DoubleTree by Hilton announced on Friday announced it will close for good, laying off 90 workers at its hotel and conference center by August.

Other companies filing WARN notices for May include Spirit Airlines (a loss of 201 New Jersey jobs): Verizon (121) and Fulton Bank (95).

Overall, from January through the first week of May, New Jersey has seen 6,637 layoffs announced in WARN notices.

That’s ahead of 2025, when New Jersey saw 6,848 layoffs announced by the end of May — which included more than a 1,000 workers cut with the closing of all Rite Aid stores.
