In 2020, being thankful takes on a whole new meaning.

Michele Siekerka, Esq., NJBIA President and CEO,

I truly believe with challenge comes opportunity. But to see that opportunity, we must dig a little deeper, stretch a little wider and reflect a little longer.

This year, I am thankful for:

The ability to wake up every day with a renewed passion to fight for our business community in New Jersey and their livelihoods. They have done everything in their power to maintain jobs for their employees, safeguard their workplaces and carry the entrepreneurial spirit of reimagining their business models to make this happen.

The entire NJBIA team, which works tirelessly for our business community. Noto just carry out our mission of affordability and regional competitiveness, but also for the pure sustainability of our businesses through critical advocacy, resources and programs to meet employer needs in real time.

The people who surround me and channel positive vibes to see our important work carried out. Our Board members, business leaders throughout the state, nonprofit and association colleagues who are in the trenches every day. These are the “boots on the ground” supporting our communities and all aspects of their ecosystems.

The Siekerka inner circle. My family, each of whom have had their own journey through this year, yet always make time to share the love and support we all need as individuals to thrive.

Health and security. While I and mine are fortunate for this, too many of our colleagues and community members are struggling like never before. Let’s look out for those around us and adhere to that mantra that “it takes a village.”

In 2020, I am thankful for the opportunity to continue to work through a really challenging point in our lives, with the hope of learning from it and being strategic in what we all can do collectively to make us stronger on the other side.

On this special Thanksgiving, I wish you and your family the very best, the ability to get off a grid for some well-deserved rest and the resolve that together we will get to the other side – mighty, resilient and sustainable.
