Tony Bawidamann – Vice President, Government Affairs

This week, the New Jersey State Senate and the Assembly voted the State Budget out of their legislative chambers sending it to the desk of Gov. Phil Murphy. This budget does not include any broad-based taxes which Gov. Phil Murphy had asked for in his budget address.

Two taxes that the Gov. Phil Murphy had asked for was an Opioid Tax, that would be placed on wholesalers. The other tax the Governor wanted to impose was a tax on employers who had 50 or more employees enrolled in the state Medicaid program. As of yet, the State Budget does not include an Opioid Tax or Corporate Responsibility Tax.

NJBIA will continue to fight against additional taxes on employers.
