Legal Affairs
The cost of litigation impacts the ability of businesses to invest, expand and create jobs. Litigation costs not only affect our members directly, but also impact their customers, employees and suppliers. Often our laws encourage lawsuits, which may lead to frivolous claims that hurt both our members and consumers because lawsuits drive up the cost of doing business. This is one of the greatest hidden costs faced by our members and among the most difficult to control.
The state took a great step toward addressing this issue with the recent creation of the Complex Business Litigation program. This is, in effect, a statewide business court that streamlines the legal process. It features judges who are well versed in business issues and provides businesses with prompt resolution of disputes.
This network provides in-house and private-practice lawyers with timely updates on proposed legislation and regulations affecting the state’s civil justice system and its impact on New Jersey’s employers.
