The Office of Higher Education Secretary Zakiya Smith Ellis and the Executive Director of New Jersey Higher Education Student Assistance Authority David Socolow presented their FY20 proposed budget.

The FY20 budget includes State appropriations of $1.65 billion in direct support for higher education services, including institutional support for public and independent institutions of higher education, financial aid for students, and the operations of the Office of the Secretary of Higher Education. This is an increase of $41.6 million or 2.6 percent over FY19.

Secretary Smith Ellis provided testimony that highlighted:

  • The state plan for higher education – https://www.nj.gov/highereducation/stateplan.shtml 
  • Community College Opportunity Grant (CCOG) – community college tuition assistance program
  • Funding for senior public colleges – including an equity-focused outcomes-based funding program
  • Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) and Tuition Assistance Grant (TAG) funding

Executive Director Socolow provided testimony that elaborated on student assistance programs including TAG and CCOG.
