Performances and art work are a driving force behind the 4,000 school programs by Young Audiences (YA) of New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania, the local chapter the national 501(c)3 Young Audiences, Inc.   But as Town Topics’ Donald Gilpin reports, YA’s transformative primary goal is for young students to expand their learning and problem-solving abilities through collaboration.

“We’re not expecting the kids we work with to become professional artists,” said Ann Betterton, development director of Young Audiences New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania. “That’s not the goal of the work. We want to help schools develop children who are 21st-century learners, who can collaborate, who can see across different subjects, who can do these interesting projects. We envision a world where fields of study are interconnected and the arts play a huge role in helping kids to make those connections.”
