In addition to imposing a 25% tariff on $200 billion of Chinese imports, the Trump administration has directed the U.S. trade representative to begin seeking 25% tariffs on an additional $300 million of Chinese imports.

A public hearing will be held June 17 and the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative will accept written comments until that time.  A list of the products impacted can be found here (scroll down to page 7).

The changes come under what is known as a Section 301 investigations related to the policies and practices of other countries.

Trump administration economic adviser Larry Kudlow said the administration has resorted to tariffs because China is not working fast enough toward an agreement that will re-balance what he described as an unfair trade relationship that has existed for years.

“We have to keep our tariffs on,” Kudlow told Fox News over the weekend. “That’s part of our enforcement process as far as we’re concerned.”
