On May 23, the Clean Energy Act was signed into law, directing the BPU to adopt rules and regulations establishing a Community Solar Energy Pilot Program within 210 days. The goal of the program is to enable utility customers participation in a solar energy project that may be remotely located from their properties and receive a credit on their utility bills.
The goal of the pilot program is also to provide the necessary experience and lay the groundwork for the development and implementation of a full-scale Community Solar Energy Program within 36 months.
A Community Solar Pilot Program Stakeholder Meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 24th at Rutgers University, 126 College Ave, New Brunswick, NJ beginning at 10:00 a.m.
The Stakeholder Meeting will be broken down into sections and those interested in testifying should submit a summary of their testimony by July 19th.
Written and verbal comments are sought on the following themes: Siting and project size, low and moderate income access, value of the credit, applications and interconnection, customer subscriptions, customer protection. Written comments are due by Friday, July 31st.
