Project DASH – a nationwide initiative that helps food pantries use DoorDash’s technology and delivery service to bring food to seniors and needy families – recently marked a milestone in its partnership with the Food Bank of South Jersey.
DoorDash “Dashers” have assisted FBSJ by making more than 5,000 deliveries to people in need in Burlington, Camden, Gloucester, and Salem counties. Assembly Leader Louis Greenwald (D-6) and Camden County Commissioner Jennifer Fleisher joined the leaders of both organizations to celebrate the milestone at a ceremonial delivery.
Through its partnership with Project DASH, FBSJ provides essential nutrition to local seniors through its Senior Nutrition Resource Supplement program, as well as serving other food-insecure individuals and families through its network of agencies and mobile pantries.
This partnership, in part supported by the New Jersey Office of Faith Based Initiatives and a $7,500 Project DASH Impact Grant, has expanded FBSJ’s reach in the community, increasing access to nutritious food for individuals and families.
FBSJ has also used Project DASH to support medically tailored nutrition initiatives, delivering healthy, prescribed food directly to participants, thus removing transportation and mobility barriers to improve health outcomes.
“Food access looks different for everyone. For some, getting nutritious food delivered to their door isn’t a convenience, it’s how they stay nourished and connected to the support they need,” said Jane Asselta, president & CEO of the Food Bank of South Jersey. “DoorDash’s Project DASH has made that possible for neighbors across our region, and we’re grateful for a partner who shows up for South Jersey the way they do.”
Alex Spyropoulos, head of New Jersey Public Policy at DoorDash, said the company was honored to support FBSJ’s mission.
“Our partnership with the Food Bank of South Jersey is a powerful example of how technology and community can come together to fight hunger,” Spyropoulos said. “Surpassing 5,000 local deliveries underscores our shared commitment to ensuring that every neighbor has access to the food they need with the dignity and convenience of home delivery.”
