Please join us for the Virtual NJBIA Joint Education & Workforce Development and Employment & Labor Policy Committee Meeting, which will be held via Zoom.

Our featured speakers will begin with Scott Altieri, Director of Labor in the Office of Governor Mikie Sherrill, who will provide an overview of the Administration’s labor priorities.

We will also hear from Stefani Thachik, Senior Advisor at the New Jersey Office of the Secretary of Higher Education, and Thomas Hilliard, Senior Policy Advisor at the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development’s Office of Research and Information. They will discuss Workforce Pell Grants and outline the state’s preparations to address this important issue, as well as highlight the roles that both industry and academia can play in advancing these efforts.

In addition, Inge Pratt, Business Registry Specialist at the Department of Treasury’s Division of Revenue and Enterprise Services (DORES), will also be joining us to provide information on the various business certifications offered by the Department, including eligibility requirements and the application process.

Scott Altieri is the Director of Labor in the Office of Governor Mikie Sherrill. Prior to joining the administration, he served as Political Director for Sherrill’s historic 2025 gubernatorial campaign, overseeing stakeholder engagement with labor unions, advocacy organizations, and elected leaders statewide. He began his work in New Jersey politics as an intern, then field organizer, on Sherrill’s initial re-election campaign to Congress in 2020, and later worked as Political Director from 2022 to 2024. Raised in Sparta, Scott earned his B.A. in Political Science from William Paterson University. He currently resides in Ridgewood with his fiancée, Isabelle, and their rescue dog, Duck.

Thomas Hilliard is Senior Policy Advisor at the New Jersey Department of Labor, Office of Research and information. He previously served as Deputy Director for Policy and Engagement at the Education and Employment Research Center; Director of State Policy at the Hope Center for Student Basic Needs at Temple University; Senior Advisor to the New Jersey Secretary of Higher Education; and Senior Fellow for Economic Opportunity at the Center for an Urban Future, a New York-based think tank. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Auburn University and a Master’s in Policy and Planning from the Bloustein School at Rutgers University.

Stefani Thachik serves as the Senior Advisor for the New Jersey Office of the Secretary of Higher Education. Her main roles include assisting in the development, communication, and implementation of policy and strategic initiatives benefiting students within the state. Prior to this role, Stefani worked in academic and student affairs at multiple higher education institutions. She received her Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University, her M.Ed. in Counselor Education from Clemson University, and her B.S. in Psychology from James Madison University.
