Governor Mikie Sherrill nominated Kevin D. Jarvis in January 2026 to serve as Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development (NJDOL). He brings decades of experience spanning public service, labor law, and workforce policy, including nearly four years as the Department’s Chief of Staff, where he helped guide operations and coordinate policy priorities with the Governor’s Office and Legislature.

Jarvis also spent more than a decade in private practice as a labor attorney, representing workers and unions across public and private sectors in collective bargaining, arbitration, and benefits-related matters before administrative agencies and courts. That experience provided him with practical insight into the needs of workers, employers, and government programs central to the Department’s mission.

Earlier in his career, he represented individuals in workplace-related legal matters, reinforcing his focus on labor standards, workplace safety, and economic security for working families.

Jarvis earned a Bachelor of Arts from Rutgers University and a Juris Doctor from Seton Hall University School of Law. He comes from a proud union family, as his father is a lifelong member of IAM Local 1812.
