New Jersey nonprofit organizations and partnerships that provide summer jobs for local youth are encouraged to apply by March 9 for the $35,000 Champion in Action grant from Citizens Bank.

The Champions in Action award will be presented to a New Jersey nonprofit with demonstrated success in providing youth summer employment programs that improve lives by teaching durable job skills that create a workforce which will support current and future business and industry needs.

To be eligible, applicants must be based in New Jersey, provide proof of tax-exempt status under IRS code section 501(c)3, and have a total operating budget of between $250,000 and $5 million. Previous Champion in Action grant winners may only reapply after five years have lapsed.

In addition to $35,000 in funding, Champions in Action receive volunteer support from Citizens Bank colleagues and promotional support at bank branches and on Citizens Bank’s website.

Since 2002, Citizens has awarded over $10 million in unrestricted Champions in Action grants to more than 370 nonprofit organizations working to address various social challenges facing communities. Grants are awarded twice annually and, in this round addressing youth employment, Citizens has expanded the multi-state program to include New Jersey.

A selection committee comprised of community leaders, Citizens colleagues, and media partner representatives review submissions to select the Champions in Action.
