NJBIA President and CEO Michele Siekerka today urged lawmakers to put politics aside and pass the state budget by the midnight deadline required by the state constitution. The Association is also urging members to contact their representatives to tell them to do the same.

Budget negotiations have stalled over legislation that would allow for the diversion of capital reserves from the health insurance company Horizon BCBSNJ. NJBIA opposes the bill.

“Our position on the Horizon legislation is unchanged; nevertheless, it is a separate issue,” Siekerka said in a prepared statement. “The urgency of meeting the constitutional deadline for enacting a balanced budget and avoiding a government shutdown should be today’s objective.

“The Governor and Legislature have shown in recent years that they can work together in a bipartisan fashion for the betterment of New Jersey, and NJBIA urges them to continue to do so.”

Members should go to the latest Membership Alert to send a letter to their lawmakers urging them to pass the state budget.
