Shrinking unemployment and a chronic skills gap has made for a sellers’ market when it comes to talented employees. In addition to making it harder to fill job openings, it could also leave you vulnerable to losing your star employees to your competitors. Employees today believe a better job is out there waiting for them, and more than half of them are looking for one.

That’s according to Gallup’s 2017 State of the American Workplace report, which found that 51 percent of currently employed adults in the U.S. say they are looking for new jobs or watching for new job opportunities. Additionally, 47 percent say now is a good time to find a quality job, compared to only 19 percent just five years ago.
