With continued increases in positive coronavirus tests, Gov. Phil Murphy set new restrictions this past week, including a 10 p.m. closing time on indoor service at New Jersey bars and restaurants. Murphy also announced that sitting at the bar will also be banned.
NJBIA President and CEO Michele Siekerka told NJTV News reporter Brenda Flanagan that the move was unnecessary, given the source of the increased positive tests.
“These spikes are not being related back, or contract-traced back, to business transactions,” Siekerka said. “They’re coming from social settings.
“And so the need to feel like we’re doing something proactive takes us to spaces that we can regulate — and unfortunately that takes us back to the business community.”
