The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) will not start placing drivers out of service for non-compliant electronic logging devices until Apr. 18, giving the commercial transportation industry time to adjust to the stricter rules and avoid service disruptions.

CVSA will enforce the rest of the provisions of congressionally mandated electronic logging device (ELD) requirements when they go into force Dec. 18, 2017. Officials will issue citations for lack of equipment and continue to mark vehicles out of service for other hours-of-service violations.

ELDs record driving hours of truck and bus drivers to make sure they comply with rules requiring them to get the proper amount of rest while working.
