Since the start of thee coronavirus pandemic, New Jersey leads the nation for COVID-related workplace lawsuits per capita, according to a report this week by Tom Nobile of the Bergen Record.

In fact, more than 1,400 cases involving worker safety and the pandemic have been filed nationwide, according to the report.

The news came as little to surprise to NJBIA President and CEO Michele Siekerka, which is why the association has been strongly lobbying for liability protections for those who work hard to uphold health and safety protocols.

“We work with businesses every day who are checking those boxes,” she said. “We know how hard they’re working to keep their workforce safe and we know how expensive it is.”

Siekerka also recommended employers have access to a national fund or program that addresses business losses and liability protection.
