While seeing a decline in electric vehicle registrations from a year ago, New Jersey is one of 10 states that have EV registration rates above 10%, according to new data released by the Alliance for Automotive Innovation.
In its quarterly Get Connected report, the Alliance said that EVs represented 9.6% of U.S. auto sales in 2025, which was a 0.6% decrease from 2024 levels.
In the three months after the loss of a $7,500 U.S. tax credit for plug-in and hybrid models, EV sales represented just 6.5% percent of total U.S. auto sales, which was down from 10% from the same period in 2024, when drivers still had access to the $7,500 credit.
New Jersey saw an EV registration of 12.2% in 2025, which is the seventh highest registration in the U.S., but also -1.82% lower than in 2024.
California has the highest EV registration percentage in the nation at 23.9%, 2.29% lower than in 2024.
The Alliance also reported that EV sales in Q4 of 2025 was the lowest it had been since Q1 of 2022.
