New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy’s $40.1 billion budget proposal calls for raising taxes on income between $1 million and $5 million.
NJBIA President and CEO Michele Siekerka told WPIX reporter Christy Duffy that it would impact thousands of small businesses that are “hanging on by a thread” right now and can ill-afford a tax increase.
On top of the economic disaster occurring to many small businesses a gas tax increase waits in the wings. Unfortunately, when the NJBIA backed this tax increase they lost their credibility to complain about future tax hikes.
New Jersey needs to get rid of Murphy and all his Democratic cohorts. WE ARE DOOMED!!!!!
Impeach Murphy and you idiots who vote Democratic take a look at our state!!!!!
The gas tax increase is prescribed under a 2016 law signed by former Gov. Christie to fund the Transportation Fund. It requires $2 billion to be collected annually from the tax to pay for transportation infrastructure projects in the state. Since fewer cars are on the road because of COVID, the tax must be raised to meet the requirement. Our current Governor must comply with the law. It is up to the legislature to revamp the funding mechanism at this point.
