David Reiner, a veteran of New Jersey government and executive director of state government affairs for Quest Diagnostics, has been named assistant vice president for state affairs at Princeton University, effective April 17.

In his new role, Reiner will have primary responsibility for developing and implementing strategies for representing the university’s interests and concerns at the state level, and for maintaining relationships with state government officials, legislators and staff, policy and opinion leaders, advocacy organizations, and others.

“David Reiner is a strategic leader with an impressive range of experience in state government affairs and a deep commitment to the University’s mission,” said Vice President and Secretary Hilary A. Parker, to whom Reiner will report. “I look forward to welcoming him to Princeton.”

Reiner comes to Princeton from Quest Diagnostics, where he was senior director of state government affairs from 2018-21, before becoming executive director. He served in the administration of Gov. Chris Christie throughout Christie’s two terms, finishing his incumbency as deputy chief of staff for policy and cabinet liaison from 2016-18.

“I am thrilled to join this incredible team at Princeton University,” Reiner said. “As someone who has spent my entire life in this state, it is an honor and privilege to be part of such an esteemed New Jersey institution.”

Reiner joined the Christie administration in 2010 as assistant counsel to the Governor’s Authorities Unit and served as a senior policy adviser from 2012 to 2014. He was assigned to the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs in 2014 as chief of staff to the deputy commissioner. He became assistant commissioner in 2014 and was appointed deputy commissioner in 2015.

A former attorney for Lowenstein Sandler, Reiner is admitted to practice law in New Jersey and New York. He holds a J.D. from Rutgers School of Law and earned a B.A. in history at William Paterson University.
