PSE&G's energy efficiency programs are generating more than $1 billion in annual savings for residential and business customers, the utility said Tuesday.
Nearly 525,000 residential customers have participated in the programs since they launched in October 2020, according to PSE&G. About 22,500 businesses have participated, including more than 2,200 small businesses, with nearly 36,000 commercial and industrial energy efficiency projects completed. Small businesses participating in PSE&G's programs are realizing about $31 million in annual energy savings, according to the utility.
The programs have generated about 3.4 million megawatt hours (MWh) of annual electricity savings, enough to power more than 497,000 homes per year, PSE&G said. Annual natural gas savings total about 87 million therms. The utility estimates that combined energy savings prevent about 2.5 million metric tons of carbon emissions each year.
PSE&G's programs have included more than 111,000 home energy assessments, nearly 373,000 smart thermostats purchased through its marketplace, nearly 158,000 retail appliance rebates and the recycling of more than 36,000 appliances.
Over 37,600 customers are enrolled in PSE&G's demand response programs, which provide incentives for customers to reduce electricity use during periods of peak demand. The enrollment figure is reported through June 2026.
The utility said it has provided about $1.1 billion in rebates and incentives to help customers pay for energy efficiency improvements. Those rebates are separate from the more than $1 billion in estimated annual customer bill savings.
The programs have also supported about 9,300 jobs statewide through March 2026. PSE&G works with more than 1,000 trade allies to implement energy efficiency projects across its service territory.
The Township of Rochelle Park recently completed energy efficiency upgrades at its recreation center, fire headquarters and Department of Public Works building through PSE&G's Direct Install Program. The improvements, which included LED lighting, high-efficiency heating and cooling systems, a furnace replacement and pipe insulation, are expected to save the township about $7,170 in annual energy costs.
PSE&G incentives covered nearly half of the project's cost, according to the utility. Township officials plan to use the savings for recreation improvements, public safety and other community priorities.
