In New Jersey, there are a host of organizations that are dedicated to serving small businesses. Whether you are looking to purchase new office space or equipment, or need a general business loan, these groups are there to provide guaranteed loans or commercial lines of credit. These groups also handle a number of business services, from helping to compose a business plan to showing you how to properly market your business. This Fast Facts is designed to provide the small business owner with a list of resources they can use to get the help they need in running a successful business in New Jersey.

NJBIA Business Resources

The Business Resources available on NJBIA’s website give you easy access to information and services to help your New Jersey business save money; deal with New Jersey and federal laws and regulations; and find loans, grants, tax incentives and other programs to develop your business. These resources are available to NJBIA members only. In Resource Areas, you will find a wealth of information on topics including business development, training and education, energy, taxation and much more. The Small Business Resource page contains information and resources to help small companies manage their operations, expand their businesses and meet the challenge of doing business in New Jersey. New Jersey Business Action Center

The NJ Business Action Center (BAC) helps to grow, retain and attract businesses to New Jersey. The BAC serves as a “one-stop” shop for businesses of all sizes to support the global competitiveness of New Jersey companies. Specifically, the BAC can help business owners navigate New Jersey’s regulatory process, explain the state’s incentive and financing programs, guide business owners through the site selection process and assist with companies looking to do international trade. New Jersey Economic Development Authority

The NJ Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) assists business owners by providing them access to capital, loans, loan guarantees and business and tax incentives. They also offer real estate development assistance. Additionally, through their strategic partnerships, the NJEDA offers technical assistance, mentoring/coaching, financing, government contracting assistance, technology commercialization and international trade facilitation. New Jersey Small Business Development Center

The New Jersey Small Business Development Center (SBDC) was established by Congress in 1978 and follows the same standard as the SBA, defining a small business as having fewer than 500 employees. Currently, the SBDC network is comprised of 11 full-service, regional centers, with its headquarters located at Rutgers Business School – Newark and New Brunswick. Each one of these centers provides educational and business resources to help small business owners finance, market and manage their companies. Contact information for the SBDC can be found below:

Small Business Administration

The US Small Business Administration (SBA) is an independent agency of the federal government that was created in 1953, which defines a small business as one with fewer than 500 employees. The SBA exists to aid, counsel, assist and protect the interests of small businesses, to preserve free competitive enterprise and to maintain and strengthen the overall economy of our nation. Essentially, the SBA helps Americans start, build and grow businesses by providing access to capital, entrepreneurial development, assistance with government contracting and advocacy.  The Intersect Fund

The Intersect Fund in a non-profit organization based in New Brunswick, NJ. They offer a host of services to low-income entrepreneurs in New Brunswick and across New Jersey. Specifically, the Intersect Fund helps to empower entrepreneurs so they can start businesses, generate income, build assets and spark social change. UCEDC

The UCEDC is a private, non-profit economic development corporation that is committed to strengthening local economies and communities through business development and job creation. The UCEDC helps small businesses by making loans, providing training and mentoring services, helping to obtain government contracts and providing accurate business information. The UCEDC also provides microloans to small business owners or entrepreneurs who may have difficulty obtaining financing for their newly formed company.
