Walmart intends to lay off 481 corporate employees at its Hoboken offices, according to a WARN notice the global retailer recently filed with the state Department of Labor and Workforce Development.
The news follows a company memo leaked last week in which the global retailer said it was eliminating positions, closing its North Carolina office and asking employees in Hoboken and other smaller offices to relocate to Walmart offices in Arkansas and California.
“We are making these changes to put key capabilities together, encouraging speed and shared understanding,” said Walmart Chief People Officer Donna Morris in the memo obtained by Fox Business News on Feb. 4. “Through this review process, we have eliminated some roles as we streamline how we work.”
Under NJ law, employers are required to file a WARN notice with the state whenever they are planning layoffs of 50 or more employees in a 30-day period. The New Jersey WARN notice filed by Walmart indicates that 481 employees at Walmart’s Hoboken location will lose their jobs on June 13.
