The TV news magazine Jersey Matters recently looked at New Jersey’s millennial outmigration problem and how NJBIA’s Post-secondary Education Task Force plans to tackle the problem. One million millennials left the state between 2007 and 2017, making it the No. 1 for outmigration for this demographic…
What’s Being Done about NJ’s Millennial Outmigration Problem

Pass more stupid laws & keep us with the highest taxes, and you can’t figure it out.
Our three children attended Universities out of State. All three abandoned their New Jersey residency immediately upon completion of their studies and now reside in PA, MD and NC.
The availability of reasonably priced apartments and home ownership opportunities is paramount to choosing where to live. We have smaller 55+ age restricted home communities which are ideal “in size” for young first time buyers. Ironic, as NJ is far too expensive a place to retire and is losing the solution (i.e. millennials) to our dilemma. Tackle the real estate taxing/housing problems and the companies will stay and the millennials they seek might likely return.
Companies factor in property taxes and healthcare costs when deciding where to locate their businesses. No company is going to choose NJ if it knows that the money they pay their employee is going to get eaten up in outrageous healthcare costs and property taxes leaving their workers overly worried and stressed when they need to be productive and happy at their jobs. The problem for NJ is all the EDA gimmicks aren’t going to work anymore. Many parents are advising their kids to get out of New Jersey.
Maybe, if Rutger’s were to treat in state students, as well as other states treat their in state students, more Jersey students would be admitted to RU, subsequently, more would be rooted locally, as they embark on their lives
I am not sure why this is not obvious. Student loans are extremely high and millennials can’t afford to purchase houses. People live paycheck to paycheck to survive. I would like our president and the state to do much more for the middle class!!
The problem is
Too much government not
Too little. Every govt program costs money and that money comes from taxes.
