Many manufacturers have reported concerns with frequent and unnecessary inspections of their facilities by local fire code officials. If you have experienced this or other problems with fire code officials, please email your experience (confidentially) to szelis@njbia.org. All comments will be aggregated for a discussion about the problems with the State Department of Community Affairs.
The NAM recently surveyed its members on the impact new, “disruptive”, technologies were having on their business. I wanted to share the highlights with all of you involved in NAM’s innovation policy efforts.
Our members tell us that disruptive technology is transforming manufacturing in numerous ways beneficial to their firms and their customers. 67% of them are investing in new technologies to drive efficiency while the same number have increased their long-term outlook due to the positive impact of technology in their products and processes. Click here for the full summary http://documents.nam.org/tech/disruptivetechsurvey.pdf of our findings.
We will use this data to support our policy initiatives and educate lawmakers on how technologies have altered the manufacturing landscape. You are more than welcome to use it in your efforts.
Looking ahead, the NAM will continue to lead on advocating for policies that foster the growth of technology in manufacturing. We have recently hosted sessions on disruptive technologies such as 3D-printing and drones to discuss what impact policy decisions may have on their increased deployment across our sector. We plan to continue that series of discussions. With your help the NAM intends to develop policy recommendations that support the continued adoption of these technologies. We need to ensure lawmakers and regulators are educated and take steps that do not hamper our ability to invest in innovation as well as our workforce.
