New Jersey residents deserve seamless access to education and training pathways that yield industry-valued credentials. Navigating those pathways is difficult even in good times. But with accelerating and dynamic changes in the workforce, the needs of employers and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the labor market, the development of a dynamic state workforce development strategy and education ecosystem has become uniquely challenging – and essential.

New Jersey Statewide Literacy Grant

Manufacturing Skills Initiative: Participate in Annual Survey

The Basic Skills Workforce Training Grant was initiated in 2007 and is a partnership of the New Jersey Department of Labor, the New Jersey Business and Industry Association (NJBIA) and the New Jersey Community College Consortium for Workforce and Economic Development (Consortium).  It is open to all New Jersey privately-owned businesses and organizations. Participating employers must be in compliance with New Jersey tax law.

Basic skills or employability training is available in:

• Communications (written, verbal and customer service)
• English as a second language
• Mathematics & measurement
• PC Skills (Microsoft OS, Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint)
• Spanish in the workplace
• Other course offerings subject to availability

The training is grant-funded and available to all of your employees. Community college instructors will customize their course offerings to address the specific needs of your company. Classes can be held at your facilities (minimum of 10 employees) or at a nearby county college. Through this program, tens of thousands of employees with thousands of companies have received instruction.

The New Jersey Business Coalition was formed by NJBIA and is comprised of more than 100 statewide business groups advocating for the safe reopening of New Jersey’s business community by lending its voice and expertise to a successful economic recovery.

New Jersey’s recovery effort from the COVID-19 public health crisis will require a comprehensive and collaborative approach between government (state, county and local) and the business community. We propose a four-prong approach which focuses on the specific needs of various vertical sectors and geographic regions, recognizing that a one-size-fits-all approach may not be appropriate. It must evaluate the immediate, near-term and long-term needs, while also balancing budgetary needs and resources.

Recognizing that so much is still unknown, this framework is a dynamic document that will be updated as further information that could influence the reopening process becomes available.

There is no better way to meet with your legislators, network with your colleagues, and learn about issues affecting your business than to attend your local Employer Legislative Committee (ELC) meetings.

The ELCs, established by NJBIA in 1959, are independent, local organizations representing all 21 counties. ELCs meet regularly for breakfast or lunch. These meetings take no longer than 90 minutes. At each meeting, legislators, cabinet members or local officials will discuss important issues pertinent to business. You will also receive a briefing from one of NJBIA’s government affairs experts on legislative and regulatory issues affecting employers.

NJBIA and the EANJ have partnered to provide members with answers to difficult HR questions confronting every business during the COVID-19 crisis.  We’ve expanded this partnership to provide key training courses designed to take your business to the next level.  Established in 1916, EANJ provides training to employers throughout the state, from small, family-owned business to the multinational corporations.  We have a shared belief that whether you have one employee or 1,000, all employers need to attract, retain and invest in and good people.
