Ray Cantor – VP, Government Affairs
NJBIA Vice President of Government Affairs Ray Cantor will be a panelist next week on NJ Spotlight News’ virtual online roundtable that will explore how New Jersey’s new landmark environmental justice law will impact businesses and communities.
The free online event takes place at 4 p.m., Nov. 17 and will feature a discussion by government, advocates and business on the new law requiring the Department of Environmental Protection to evaluate the health impacts on vulnerable communities when reviewing permit applications for new facilities such as gas-fired power plants, incinerators, sewage plants, landfills, and others.
In addition to Cantor, the other panelists include Shawn LaTourette, deputy commissioner of the state Department of Environmental Protection; Melissa Miles, executive director of the New Jersey Environmental Justice Alliance; and Maria Lopez-Nunez, deputy director for organizing and advocacy at the Ironbound Community Corporation.
The moderator is NJ Spotlight News’ energy and environment writer, Tom Johnson.
Among the topics to be explored is how the new facility evaluation process will work and what environmental impact benchmarks will be used to signify disproportional pollution impact on overburdened communities.
