“If you don’t put in the work, you won’t enjoy the reward.”

That was the advice entrepreneur and television personality Danielle Cabral shared with fashion students and aspiring business owners at Berkeley College in Woodland Park last week. Cabral spoke as part of the Bosses@Berkeley series, which invites fashion professionals on campus to share their stories and expertise.

Cabral, who stars on Bravo’s “The Real Housewives of New Jersey,” spent six years building her children’s boutique, Boujie Kidz, from the ground up. A self-made entrepreneur, she taught herself everything from coding a website to marketing her brand.

“If you are getting educated in (business) you are one step ahead of everyone else,” Cabral said. “Set yourself apart – there are a million people who want to do what you do, especially in the fashion world.”

Cabral also spoke about the value of mentors and internships. Students enrolled in the Fashion Merchandising and Management program at Berkeley College have the opportunity to participate in an internship or job-related assignment for hands-on learning.

Cabral recently launched her own fashion line and hosted a show at New York Fashion Week in 2023. She is working to expand her business to tweens, teens, and adults. Despite her successes, Cabral admits that “not all that glitters is gold.”

“Failures are where you learn everything,” she said. “If you don’t learn in the process, what’s the point? I’m still not at my pinnacle of success and I will not accept anything less.”

“At Berkeley College, our fashion students not only learn in the classroom and in the field, but also through meeting and networking with fashion innovators such as Danielle Cabral,” said Andrea Kennedy, Lead Faculty, Fashion Merchandising and Management, Berkeley College Larry L. Luing School of Business®. “Danielle infused such great humor and joy into the stories of her life and business journey. Her inspiring talk allowed our students to learn in multifaceted ways.”
