The American Heart Association’s Greater New Jersey Heart Walk taking place at various locations throughout Garden State in October will be raising awareness and funds for research and accessible CPR training that can turn more bystanders into lifesavers.
The events are a fun family-friendly way to bring communities together to get active, raise life-saving funds and support the mission of the American Heart Association, the nation’s oldest and largest voluntary organization dedicated to fighting heart disease and stroke.
Since 1949, the American Heart Association has invested $5.7 billion for critical research to reduce heart attacks and stroke and now trains 22 million people in CPR each year. Accessible CPR training is critical to the organization’s mission because 9 out of 10 people who suffer cardiac arrest outside of a hospital die, usually because CPR was not performed by a bystander.
In New Jersey, there are several Heart Walks to choose from in October, including:
- New Jersey Tri-County Heart Walk at Overpeck County Parker on Sunday, Oct. 5 in Ridgefield offering one-mile and three-mile route options
- Northern New Jersey Heart Walk on Saturday, Oct. 11 at ADP headquarters in Roseland offering a one-mile route option
- Central New Jersey Heart Walk in West Windsor Township offering a one-mile route option. The exact date and location in West Windsor will be announced soon.
Go to the Greater New Jersey Heart Walk information page for more details on how to register to walk, volunteer or donate. Businesses and other organizations are encouraged to form walking teams and/or support the Greater New Jersey Heart Walk through sponsorships.
