About the Role: We’re looking for a creative, detail-obsessed Junior Graphic Designer to join our in-house design team! If you geek out over type alignment, live by paragraph styles, and enjoy transforming editorial content into engaging, eye-catching layouts, this could be the role for you. You’ll be involved in producing our monthly flagship magazine plus supporting various marketing and event design initiatives, both in print and digital.
Your responsibilities will include designing and managing editorial layouts and covers in InDesign while ensuring printer standards. You will also be overseeing the full proofing process, ripping files for print, coordinating with the magazine printer, sending files to the printer, resolving prepress issues and uploading the issue to WordPress. Join us and help enhance our storytelling and branding efforts by creating marketing materials, emails, and social posts to promote NJBIA and magazine initiatives, events and programs, while keeping all marketing assets up to date and organized.
Cross-Team Collaboration
· Work with Editorial to design monthly magazine covers that reflect each issue’s editorial theme.
- Work with the Sales and Production team to create the monthly issue grid showing ad placement and update the media kit and promo materials.
- Collaborate with Government Affairs and Membership on promotional collateral.
- Support the Events the Communications team with creativity for upcoming programs.
Required Technical Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design.
- 1+ year of experience in magazine layout or editorial design.
- Proven experience with print production, color profiles, and layout principles.
- Strong proficiency in Adobe InDesign (fonts, paragraph styles, RGB vs CMYK, exporting).
- Proficiency in Photoshop and using generative AI tools (color correction, image editing, retouching – print and digital).
- Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud ( Illustrator, Acrobat, Adobe Express).
- Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
- Familiarity with Canva for light digital or social media work.
- Experience with email marketing tools, ie. Mailchimp.
· Understanding of WordPress.
· Familiarity with HTML/CSS
· Familiarity with creating video and/or animations
