The Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey (CCGNJ) will hold its 43rd Annual Conference on Disordered Gambling on Friday, Sept. 19, with the keynote being delivered by Dr. Harry Levant, a noted authority and advocate for gambling reforms.
The 2025 Conference theme is "The Hidden Epidemic: A Public Health Concern," capturing the far-reaching fallout of gambling's pervasive presence in the state. The Conference will take place at the New Jersey Hospital Association in Princeton.
CCGNJ's 2025 Conference will examine how gambling disorder has quietly grown into a pressing public health crisis in the state.
Since the legalization of sports betting in 2018, calls to the Council’s 800-GAMBLER Helpline have surged by nearly 300%, with a majority of these calls now coming from young adults under 34, including many under the legal betting age of 21.
In addition, recent research reveals that problem gambling rates in New Jersey are three times the national average.
CCGNJ Executive Director Luis Del Orbe said, 'This year's conference will shed light on a very troubling truth: gambling disorders, long considered a hidden affliction, now loom as a widespread public health concern. Attendees at our conference will include health professionals, educators, policymakers, advocates, families, and community members all determined to confront this crisis head-on."
The tremendous growth of online betting has given rise to a gambling culture. The conference program features experts discussing the latest research, trends, and innovative prevention strategies. It will offer solutions to combat the normalization of gambling and protect youth and vulnerable communities.
