Big Ideas from
Small Businesses
According to Nicole Sandelier, “The intersection between business,
government and academia continues to grow; our knowledge-based economy and the
sky-high potential of the tech sector make it a natural partnership. While this
sounds very 21st century, one federal agency has been promoting this type of
collaboration since 1982.”
EDA Announces
First Nine Collaborative Workspaces to Support Startups
Technology and life sciences startups considering a move into incubators, accelerators
or coworking spaces are now able to apply for rent support grants at nine
collaborative workspaces throughout the state. These nine workspaces are the

participate in NJ Ignite.
NJ Vocational
Schools Honor Businesses Contributions to Education
Nothing beats hands-on learning, especially when it comes to
vocational-technical education. In New Jersey, businesses have been stepping up
to provide students with the real-world experience that will make them valuable
members of the workforce in the near future. The NJ Council on County
Vocational-Technical Schools (NJCCVTS) is honoring a handful of these
businesses as its Business Partners of the Year.
Federal Plan to
Advance STEM
Last week, the White House released “Charting a Course for Success:
America’s Strategy for STEM Education,” a five-year federal strategic
policy plan to advance science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
2019 STEAM Tank
Challenge
We can’t solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we
created them – Albert Einstein. STEAM Tank provides New Jersey students a
platform to experience real-world problem solving. It allows them to think like
entrepreneurs and design and create whatever they can dream using the fields of
STEAM – science, technology, engineering, the arts and math. In STEAM Tank,
students create innovative products and solutions to problems, which they enter
into a competition. Winners at the regional level compete in the finals at
NJSBA’s annual Workshop, before a judging panel of entrepreneurs and business
leaders.
Rutgers Cancer
Institute of New Jersey Puts Patients First
According to Steve Libutti, “As the state’s only National Cancer
Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, Rutgers Cancer Institute of
New Jersey is at the forefront of cancer research, treatment and prevention.
With more than 25 years of providing patient care, we have a tremendous
responsibility of delivering high-quality services, and we are accomplishing
this through an integrated care model with RWJBarnabas Health. This partnership
enables us to provide patients with greater access to the most advanced
treatment options close to home.”
Moving the
Needle in a Positive Direction in the Innovation Economy
According to Ellen Marrison, “Bringing the innovation community together
and examining how it has advanced – or how it hasn’t – is one of the driving
goals of SSTI’s annual conferences. This year we brought together
thought-provoking leaders to help reflect on whether stakeholders in the
innovation economy are moving the needle in the right direction.
