A pair of longtime New Jersey manufacturers are calling for Gov. Phil Murphy to sign new legislation that would give the opportunity for more government efficiency and less red tape for business.
An op-ed appearing in ROI-NJ on Monday from Brian F. Neuwirth, president of UNEX Manufacturing in Lakewood, and Clifford Lindholm, president & CEO, Falstrom Company in Passaic, said Murphy should sign a bill on his desk that would create the Government Efficiency and Regulatory Review (GEARR) Commission.
The legislation (A-4810/S-441) has been strongly supported by NJBIA, as the commission – which would be coordinated by Murphy’s chief innovation officer – would assess the economic benefits of regulations versus the burdens of business and government in New Jersey.
“When we look at most of the needs of businesses and manufacturers in New Jersey – an improved tax climate, an innovation ecosystem, a workforce development pipeline and infrastructure – they all come with costs,” wrote Lindholm and Neuwirth, who are both NJBIA board members. “The only expenditure required for the GEARR Commission is time and common sense.
“And in New Jersey business, that logic and practicality can be sorely missed, tying the hands of frustrated business owners in knots.”
