Courtney Matlock has joined the nonprofit Mercer Street Friends as its chief development and marketing officer, where she will work on expanding donor audiences, generating new sources of funding, and increasing awareness of Mercer Street Friends’ important work in the community.

Matlock reports directly to Mercer Street Friends CEO Bernie Flynn, who called her “an accomplished leader with a passion for service and our mission.”

Prior to joining Mercer Street Friends on Aug. 1, Matlock served as senior director of development for United Way of Greater Mercer County where she led the organization in diversifying its funding and played a pivotal role in expanding nutrition and higher education resources for low- and moderate-income families.

Under her leadership, United Way of Greater Mercer County’s Strike Out Hunger event expanded beyond providing nutrition during summer months to a yearlong effort to also make fresh produce readily available. A community organizer, Matlock plays a key role in building strategic partnerships across Mercer County; expanding access to social services, financial and education resources.

“Mercer Street Friends is so much more than a food bank,” Matlock said. “I’m excited to join a team that’s leading the charge to build the Community Schools model in New Jersey. I look forward to advancing its commitment to making sure students, families, and educators have access to community resources needed, including food, to not merely show up, but thrive.”

In addition to fundraising, Matlock’s professional portfolio includes volunteer development, higher education admissions, and a corporate career in marketing and strategic forecasting. Matlock holds an MBA in International Business from Schiller International University in Paris and a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Rutgers University-New Brunswick. Ms. Matlock also currently serves on the board of Trinity Counseling Services and on the advisory committees of HiTops and WorkWell.
