NJBIA Chief Government Affairs Officer Chrissy Buteas issued the following statement regarding Gov. Phil Murphy’s announcement of Executive Order 217 to address healthcare affordability through several initiatives.
“NJBIA members have long voiced their concerns about rising healthcare costs, with 57% of New Jersey residents receiving healthcare benefits from their employer.
“These concerns are even more exacerbated now with the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic. In fact, of the 72% of respondents in our recent Business Outlook Survey who offered health insurance in 2020, 28% said they’ll be forced to discontinue that coverage in 2021 due to escalating costs and declining revenue.
“With statistics like these and health premiums continuing to rise steadily every year, it’s paramount that New Jersey does what it can to help employers meet the great challenges of providing cost-effective healthcare.
“NJBIA appreciates today’s announcement by Gov. Murphy, and we look forward to working with the administration to continue to address healthcare affordability.”
