On behalf of our member companies that make NJBIA the largest, most impactful association representing job creators in New Jersey, we support Assembly Bill A-5572, which establishes quorum standards for professional licensing entities under certain circumstances.
Specifically, the legislation establishes that under specific circumstances, after a 90-day period, the attendance of one professional board member, the chair of the board, establishes a quorum for the sole purpose of processing licensing applications that do not require a legal review.
With workforce shortages prevalent in many industries, it is important to ensure that bottlenecks within the licensing process are cleared to allow these individuals to obtain their credentials and enter the workforce. One such bottleneck can be the inability for professional boards to establish a quorum to review and process licensing applications due to board member vacancies and attendance challenges.
This legislation provides a common-sense solution to this issue, while also ensuring the appropriate treatment of applications that may require additional review.
We thank the bill sponsors, Assemblyman Stanley and Assemblywoman Speight for their leadership to implement common-sense strategies to support the professional licensing community.
