The Martin Tuchman School of Management at the New Jersey Institute of Technology is bringing together government, academia and business for a Creating Smart Cities Summit on April 12 to examine innovative tools and technologies spurring smart growth. 

The event is an opportunity to learn from industry experts, innovators, and governmental leaders about the latest technologies and strategies shaping the future of smart city development.  

The conference takes place from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Friday, April 12 in the NJIT Campus Center Atrium, 150 Bleeker Street, Newark. 

Ben Stone, director of Design and Creative Placemaking for the National Endowment for the Arts, will deliver the keynote followed by an audience question and answer session. The event will also feature panel discussions on core principles of smart cities and the use of technology to accomplish smart cities goals. 

Moderators and panelists include: 

  • Judith Sheft, Executive Director of NJ Commission on Science, Innovation and Technology 
  • Rayan Hassane Assaad, Founding Director of the Smart Construction and Intelligent Infrastructure Systems (SCIIS) Lab, Newark College of Engineering 
  • Zoe Baldwin, Vice-President, State Programs, Regional Plan Association 
  • Barbara Bickert, Senior Advisor, Arts and Culture, New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) 
  • Roger Smith, Design Director and Principal of Gensler, a global design and architectural firm. Smit is also Co-Chair of the Gensler Research Institute’s Center for Research on Equity and the Built Environment. 
  • Sean Sonnenman, Senior Project Officer, Clean Energy Office of Economic Transformation, NJEDA 
  • Reggie Caudill, Ph.D., Founder, Leir Research Institute at NJIT 
  • Guiling Wang, Ph.D. Associate Dean of Research, Ying Wu College of Computing and member of the State of New Jersey Artificial Intelligence Task Force 
  • Dan Jennings, Executive Vice President for Real Estate Development and Programs, NJEDA
