In this video from NJBIA’s recent Business Mania event at Rutgers University, HR experts discuss how to attract and retain top talent, the role of AI in talent management, and the growing importance of employer branding and marketing in human resources.
Kristi D’Angeli, CEO and founder of the national HR consulting firm Work DynamX, said she tells clients that successful recruiting requires long-term planning about how the employer wants the role to evolve – not just focusing on the tactical skills needed on a day-to-day basis to do a given job.
“It’s more a matter of do they have the right mindset, and do they have the right values that you can fit within your organization,” D’Angeli said.
John Christian, director of Human Resources at the accounting firm Nisivoccia LLP, said that when it comes to accountants and auditors he’s recruiting for a team player that works well with his or her colleagues. Too often someone who thinks they are a “superstar” can ruin a team or an organization because their priority is themself, he said.
“In the accounting and the audit side, we want people who are team oriented,” Christian said. “When I recruit, I look for people who have done sports in high school and college because they are used to working with teams, or people who have been in or run organizations. They’re used to working with teams.”
