Barbara Horl, a trustee at Brookdale Community College, has been elected by presidents and trustees of the state’s 19 community colleges to serve on the Executive Committee of the New Jersey Council of County Colleges (NJCCC).
The Executive Committee, consisting of four community college trustees and three community college presidents, guides the work of the NJCCC.
Horl has served as a trustee at Brookdale Community College since 2019. She brings extensive experience in public service and education to this new role, having served in leadership roles with the New Jersey Department of State, the New Jersey Department of Education, and the New Jersey School Boards Association.
A longtime Monmouth County resident, Horl has also served on local boards of education and is deeply committed to expanding access to higher education for New Jersey students. Horl has been active in the NJCCC’s work for many years and currently serves as the trustee chair of the Council’s State and Federal Policy Committee.
Horl has worked to inform state leaders in Trenton and federal leaders in Washington, D.C., about the essential role of community colleges. She has also shared her insights on community college leadership and policy with college leaders from across the country at the national Association of Community College Trustees’ Leadership Congress.
“Trustee Horl is an expert on education and state policy and brings a wealth of knowledge to her new role on the Council’s Executive Committee,” said Sheetal Ranjan, Ph.D., chair of the NJCCC Executive Committee and a trustee at Bergen Community College.
“Trustee Horl has made significant positive contributions as vice chair of the Board at Brookdale Community College and will make important contributions to our statewide collaborative efforts as a member of the Council’s Executive Committee,” added David Stout, Ph.D., the president of Brookdale Community College.
