Nonprofits serving veterans and their families can learn more about grant opportunities available under the Horizon Foundation Veterans Health Initiative during two online information sessions scheduled for March 6 and March 10.
The Horizon Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, Shield of New Jersey, has launched the Veterans Health Initiative to support veterans’ organizations address the unique challenges veterans face. The foundation will provide one-year program grants of up to $20,000 to organizations serving veterans and their families for programs that focused on any of these three areas:
- Behavioral Health: Supporting veterans’ mental health needs, including for post-traumatic stress, military sexual trauma, suicide prevention, anxiety, depression, substance use disorder and other behavioral health concerns.
- Housing & Food Security: Helping veterans and their families access safe, affordable and stable housing, and essential food resources.
- Economic Opportunity: Providing veterans with the tools, resources and business connections to help them thrive professionally, including training, mentorship and networking.
Organizations that apply for grants must New Jersey-based 501(c)(3) organizations serving veterans and/or their families and have experience running effective programs that deliver positive results. Grants cannot be used for general operating support.
Two online Zoom meetings hosted by Braven Health, The Horizon Foundation, and the New Jersey State Veterans Chamber of Commerce, will be held in March to provide more information about the grants.

Applicants must submit proposals online by May 7. Grant decisions will be made in July for a one-year grant term that begins Oct. 1.
