Americans still see manufacturing as the best way to create new jobs and boost the economy, according to a new Gallup poll.
Nineteen percent of the more than 1,000 adults surveyed said, “Keeping manufacturing jobs from going overseas” is the best way to create more jobs. Reducing government regulation and lowering taxes were the next most frequent responses, offered by 12 percent of the participants. Increasing infrastructure work and improving education were the next two, garnering 10 percent each.
The results mirror previous polls from 2009 and 2011, where protecting manufacturing jobs also was the top answer.
According to Gallup, “Although Donald Trump stressed retaining and restoring manufacturing jobs in the U.S. while he was a presidential candidate, the idea is not new for Americans. Retaining and restoring manufacturing jobs also topped Americans’ recommendation list in 2009 and 2011.”
