Monmouth University will host an upcoming discussion on the media’s role in advancing civility in politics and public service that will feature NJ Spotlight News’ Briana Vannozzi and the New Jersey Globe’s David Wildstein as panelists.

The event, which takes place from 11:40 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesday, March 26 at the Pollack Theatre at Monmouth University, will be moderated by Senator Vin Gopal (D-11) and former Senator Joe Kyrillos (R-13).

“Restoring Public Trust: The Role of Media in Advancing Civility and Informed Policy” is a free event, but registration is required in advance here

The panelists each bring unique perspectives about the media’s role in informed public discourse. Vannozzi is an Emmy-award winning journalist and television anchor for NJ Spotlight News, the newsroom of NJ PBS, whose career began by covering State House politics for New Jersey Network News. Wildstein is the founder and editor-in-chief of the political news website New Jersey Globe, and renowned for his encyclopedic knowledge of New Jersey politics.

The moderators are both successful local businesspeople with longstanding ties to public service. Senator Gopal is a Democrat who has represented the 11th Legislative District in Monmouth County since 2018. He is currently the Senate Majority Whip and chair of the Senate Education Committee.

Kyrillos is a Republican who retired from the Senate in 2018 after a 30-year career in the Legislature representing the 13th Legislative District in Monmouth County. A former chair of the New Jersey Republican State Committee, Kyrillos is now a principal in the investment firm SK Partners and a director at Newport Capital Group.
