Beginning this fall, Raritan Valley Community College is offering a new associate of science degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology that will prepare students to transfer seamlessly into New Jersey Institute of Technology’s (NJIT) Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology program.

RVCC has a formal articulation agreement with NJIT, so RVCC graduates may transfer with junior status into NJIT, one of the nation’s leading public polytechnic universities.

An open house and information session on the Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET) program will be held at 6 p.m., April 19 at RVCC in room WT215 of the Workforce Training Center. The RVCC campus is at 118 Lamington Road in Branchburg.

“Students who obtain an MET degree from RVCC have two paths. They can go directly into the workforce, or they can easily transition to NJIT as a junior and obtain their bachelor’s degree,” said MET instructor and program coordinator, Tony D’Angelo, who is a graduate of both RVCC and NJIT.

The MET program emphasizes hands-on instruction and applied technical problem-solving, so it is an excellent option for students who are interested in engineering and want a hands-on experience.

“The Mechanical Engineering Technology program is a great opportunity for students who want to focus on the applied side of mechanical engineering. The RVCC-NJIT partnership ensures that students not only have a seamless transition in their education, but also a faculty team that will continuously improve the program and course offerings,” said Sam Lieber, Ph.D., PE, associate professor and acting chair, School of Applied Engineering & Technology, New Jersey Institute of Technology.

RVCC’s industry-certified Advanced Manufacturing curriculum also is incorporated into the MET program, which prepares students for careers in design, manufacturing, production engineering, test and evaluation, operations, maintenance, technical marketing, sales, and more. The program features small classes, taught by qualified faculty, in the college’s state-of-the-art facilities.

“The MET program gives learners the opportunity to do hands-on training that will make them more employable when they graduate. A student graduating with an MET degree from RVCC will move to the front of the line for an employer,” said Conrad Mercurius, director of the Center for Advanced Manufacturing, Raritan Valley Community College.

Classes for RVCC’s Fall 2023 semester begin Aug. 30.

Advance registration for the April 19 open house and information session is not required. For additional information about the new Mechanical Engineering Technology program, contact Tony D’Angelo at Anthony.D’Angelo@raritanval.edu.
