Meet the Gubernatorial Candidates – ELC Reception 2025 REGISTER

The U.S. manufacturing sector spends $350 billion annually to comply with federal regulations, and when agencies overstep with inefficient, duplicative and unnecessary rules it siphons resources that could be invested in jobs and economic growth, NJBIA President & CEO Michele Siekerka said in a podcast released Tuesday.

On the latest episode of “Business Better,” part of the law firm Ballard Spahr’s Manufacturing Moment series, Siekerka and Oregon Business & Industry Association President & CEO Angela Wilhelm shared their thoughts on navigating the manufacturing landscape in their states. Ballard Sphar attorney Brigitta Glunk hosted the discussion.

Siekerka, who is also the president of the Conference of State Manufacturers Associations, said manufacturers take regulatory compliance seriously, and the industry’s focus is on reforms that address burdensome regulations that “overstep.”

Both NJBIA and the Oregon Business & Industry Association were among the signatories on a letter to President Donald Trump several months ago providing a priority list of regulatory reforms in areas including the environment, energy, labor, employment, corporate finance and more.

“We’re not talking about throwing away good regulation that requires us to have the proper balance between environment, employment, people and all of that,” Siekerka said. “We’re talking about getting at the heart of what is overregulation.”
