A worker using ProCAT’s wrist computer screen and ring scanner

Does a cat really have nine lives?  It seems plausible.  After all, they often get themselves into the most death defying situations but somehow manage Houdini-like escapes to live another day.

Businesses certainly don’t have nine lives, sometimes not even one, as your reputation depends on delivering on what you promise each and every time. That’s why another “cat,” NJBIA member ProCat Distribution Technologies, offers warehouses and distribution centers tracking programs that ensure virtually 100 percent accuracy.

Founded in 2001 and based in Gibbsboro, this 18-employee technology company uses a unique hands-free scanning system for picking up, loading and delivery, and receiving any type of goods.

The non-proprietary scanning technology puts a touch screen computer on the wrist of a “picker” (warehouse/distribution worker) along with a ring scanner connected to the company’s wireless software. This allows the workers to ensure that the right products are going to the right places, while also collecting a wealth of data for control, recording and tracking.

In essence, ProCat’s technology is an important component of a distribution center’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), the integrated management of core business practices, often in real-time.

ProCat’s system eliminates paper “pick tickets” (the form that lets staff know which inventory to pick and pack for shipment) and is so easy to use,  a new employee can generally be trained in just one shift.  It’s hands-free, works in real-time and even has sounds to verify if the selection is correct or not. The software has additional applications for loading, receiving, stocking, coding, counting, returning and shipping as well.

One of the many distributors that utilize ProCat’s technology is L. J. Zucca Distributors, Inc., based in Vineland.  They have been supplying the retail market with inventory since 1947 and ProCat’s software is a key ingredient in helping them deliver on their company motto: “Big enough to supply, but small enough to know you.”

Congratulations to ProCat for all their success to date and being one of the “top cats” in their industry.  For more information about them visit their website or LinkedIn Page.

ProCat Distribution Technologies is just one of 20,000 companies that comprise NJBIA’s membership, which is very diverse with representation from an amazingly large and wide spectrum of fields, industries and professions. Look for more unique stories about NJBIA members in future issues of “Beyond 10 West Lafayette,” NJBIA’s membership blog.
