Employers who buy health insurance are encouraged to take part in an informational webinar at 1 p.m., July 13 about New Jersey’s Health Care Cost Growth Benchmark Program designed to track healthcare spending and develop strategies to make coverage more affordable.

Healthcare costs have been growing faster than the economy for decades and increased costs are placing an increasing burden on New Jersey businesses, families and the state budget. An executive order signed by Gov. Phil Murphy in January directed the Office of Health Care Affordability and Transparency to lead a multi-agency effort to address the crisis.

The Department of Banking & Insurance is spearheading plans for the development and implementation of the Health Care Cost Growth Benchmark program, as other states have done, to track healthcare spending and develop cost-containment strategies. The work is supported with resources from the Peterson-Milbank Program for Sustainable Health Care Costs and technical assistance from Bailit Health and the Rutgers Center for State Health Policy.

Free 90-minute webinars have been scheduled to help stakeholders learn more about the details of the benchmark program and how it will impact employers, consumers, hospitals and providers. The webinar dates and targeted audiences are as follows:
