A bipartisan bill that would allow mobile barbershops and hair salons to counter coronavirus restrictions advanced this week.

Under the proposed bill, sponsored by Senate President Steve Sweeney (D-3) and Senator Mike Testa (R-1), a mobile facility would be required to have a minimum of 75 square feet of floor space, contain a restroom and meet other criteria, such as a permanent sign indicating the name of the shop on the trailer’s exterior.

In a story posted on NJ101.5 news, NJBIA Chief Government Affairs Officer Chrissy Buteas represented the New Jersey Salon Coalition in its approval of the bill.

“This is something that we think would be beneficial, especially during these times with COVID-19,” Buteas said.
