Whether it’s helping with various redevelopment projects in Newark or leading the firm to victory in the acclaimed Battle of the Barristers, Genova Burns attorney Tom Garlick knows the power of community.
Garlick, who joined Genova Burns in January 2022 as an associate in the firm’s Commercial Real Estate and Redevelopment, Land Use and Approvals practice, has been an integral partner in many development and real estate projects across Newark.
Now he will continue serving the city through his involvement with the Leadership Newark program, whose mission is to help promote social change in the city, connecting community leaders across various disciplines to work together.
Garlick is no stranger to the city. He has assisted many residents with leases, landlord litigation, and other projects. His involvement with the Leadership Newark program will strengthen his bond with Newark and its citizens.
“Leadership Newark brings in a lot of people from different professions,” Garlick said. “We work on different leadership skills for the first year, taking classes and attending events. The second year (of the program) we work together on a project.” He later explained a business or other institution will reach out to members of Leadership Newark and apply for their help.
During his tenure at Genova Burns, Garlick has seen the growth of both commercial and residential buildings in Newark. Leadership Newark will give him another chance to learn more about the city and how he and others can help it grow and thrive.
Leadership Newark’s mission is to be a catalyst to engage, empower, connect and improve the network of community and civic leaders as they each commit to build, strengthen, and serve for the common good. Members of the Fellowship will develop the skills and knowledge of a diverse network of established and emerging leaders who will collectively and individually enhance and strengthen the vibrancy and future growth of the greater Newark region.
