The New Jersey Business & Industry Association today applauded the enactment of A-3617/S-2390 which would extend the period that developers may use previously approved building permits from state, regional, county and municipal agencies. The bill received final legislative approval yesterday and was signed into law by the Governor last night.

Under the bill, permits in the Counties of Atlantic, Bergen, Cape May, Essex, Hudson, Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean and Union could be extended due to impacts from superstorm Sandy. This legislation would change the permit extension deadline to December 31, 2016.

“These nine counties are still impacted by the after effects of Sandy. The storm combined with the recession has made rebuilding challenging,” said Sara Bluhm, NJBIA vice president of Environment and Energy. “Extending the permit deadline is only common sense.”
